Charleston truly sparkles in December — and it’s not just because of the historic architecture. For dog lovers, the city offers a handful of festive, four-legged–friendly events that are perfect for getting into the holiday spirit. Whether your pup loves cruising through twinkling lights or taking a stroll at a holiday dog park party, here are some great options to consider.

1. Festival of Lights

Date: 11/14/25-12/31/25

Time: 5:30-10pm

Location: James Island County Park

Bring your furry friend to enjoy this fun Lowcountry holiday tradition from the comfort of your vehicle. During your driving tour through millions of twinkling lights, there will be magical surprises along the way.

2. Hanahan Christmas Parade (with dogs)

Date: 12/6/25

Time: 10am

Location: Hanahan High School

Hosted by the Hanahan Exchange Club, this is a parade route where well-behaved, non-reactive dogs can walk alongside their owners.

3. Howlidays at the Park

Date: 12/11/25

Time: 5-7pm

Location: Mixson Dog Park

Bring your cameras for pictures with Santa Paws, enjoy pet vendors, stop by and meet the adoptable pets at Dusty Tails and grab a bite to eat from a delicious food truck!

4. Charleston Holiday Parade of Boats

Date: 12/13/25

Time: 6pm

Location: Charleston Harbor

Leashed dogs are welcome at this annual tradition where participants decorate their boats and sail the Charleston Harbor to delight thousands gathered along the shore.

5. Pet Photos with Santa

Date: November-12/15/25 (Mondays only)

Time: See online for available time slots

Location: Northwoods Mall

Bring your furry friends for photos with Santa during these special Monday time slots! Photo packages will be available for purchase.

No matter how you celebrate the season, Charleston is full of wag-worthy ways to make December magical with your best furry friend. So bundle up, grab the leash, and head out for some festive fun — because the holidays are always brighter with a dog by your side.
