Christmas morning is magical—twinkling lights, excited kids, jingling toys… and one very enthusiastic dog who has no idea what’s happening but knows it’s A LOT.
While we love a joyful pup, all that excitement can quickly turn into stress, barking, counter surfing, or a dog sprinting off with wrapping paper like it’s the best toy ever. The good news? A little planning goes a long way in keeping your dog calm, happy, and part of the fun.
Start with a Morning Walk (Yes, Even on Christmas!)
Before the presents come out and the doorbell starts ringing, give your dog what they really want: movement. Even a shorter-than-usual walk is better than none - a tired dog is a happy (and quieter) dog.
Feed Before the Festivities
Holiday smells are tempting, but skipping meals can make dogs cranky and more likely to beg or steal food. Stick to their normal feeding schedule. A full belly = fewer bad decisions!
Create a “Calm Zone”
Christmas can be overwhelming, especially for dogs who aren’t used to lots of people or noise.
Set up a cozy retreat that gives your dog a safe place to relax when things get loud or busy.
Wrapping Paper Is NOT a Toy
We know—watching your dog “help” unwrap presents is adorable… until they eat ribbon or cardboard. ProTip: Give them their gift early so they’re occupied while humans unwrap theirs.
Manage Visitors Like a Pro
New people, new smells, and nonstop attention can be a lot. Help your dog succeed by asking guests to ignore your dog at first, avoiding door-dashing with leashes or baby gates, and keeping greetings calm and controlled. Not every dog wants a hug from Aunt Carol—and that’s okay.
Keep Routines (As Much as Possible)
Dogs thrive on predictability, even during the holidays. Try to keep walk times consistent, meals on schedule, bedtime routines familiar. When everything else feels exciting and new, routines help dogs feel secure.
A Calm Pup Makes the Day Brighter
Christmas morning doesn’t have to be chaotic to be joyful. With a little planning, your dog can enjoy the holiday right alongside you. And if your schedule is packed with cooking, guests, or last-minute errands, a professional dog walker can help keep your pup happy and balanced during the busiest time of year.
From our pack to yours—wishing you a furry, bright, and peaceful Christmas morning 🐾🎄
