Thanksgiving is all about slowing down, sharing good food, and spending time with the ones you’re thankful for — and our dogs definitely make that list. From wagging tails to endless cuddles, our pups bring joy to every day, which makes the holiday the perfect time to celebrate them, too. Here are some fun and heartwarming ways to include your dog in your Thanksgiving traditions.

1. Start the Day with a Thankful Walk

Kick off the holiday with a leisurely morning walk. Enjoy the crisp fall air, crunch some leaves together, and take a moment to appreciate the simple joy of being out with your favorite furry friend.

2. Whip Up a Dog-Friendly Thanksgiving Treat

Let your pup enjoy a taste of the feast! Create a safe and tasty treat using ingredients like pumpkin, carrots, sweet potatoes, or turkey (plain and unseasoned). Pumpkin pup-cakes or turkey & sweet potato bites make perfect Thanksgiving snacks.

3. Make a Pup Plate (the Safe Way!)

While many Thanksgiving dishes are off-limits, you can build a small dog-safe plate with:

  • Plain turkey (no skin, no bones)

  • Steamed green beans

  • Sweet potatoes (no marshmallows)

  • A spoonful of plain pumpkin

Keep them away from onions, garlic, butter-heavy dishes, stuffing, and desserts.

4. Create a “Thankful For” Photo Moment

Snap a festive fall photo of your pup with a simple sign like “Thankful for snuggles,” “Thankful for treats,” or “Thankful for long walks.” It’s perfect for sharing with friends and family — and makes a sweet keepsake.

5. Include Your Dog in the Gratitude Tradition

When your family shares what they’re thankful for this year, add your pup to the list. You can even create a small gratitude jar filled with notes about your dog’s funniest moments, quirks, and things they do that brighten your day.

6. Set Up a Cozy Thanksgiving Nap Spot

With guests arriving and delicious smells everywhere, your dog may need a comfy break zone. Make a cozy corner with blankets, a favorite toy, or a special chew to help them unwind amid the holiday excitement.

7. Take Your Pup on a Post-Feast Stroll

After your meal, head out for a digestive walk with your dog. It’s a relaxing way to end the day — and your pup will appreciate the extra bonding time.

8. Share the Love with a Donation

Thanksgiving is a wonderful time to give back to dogs in need. Donate food, blankets, or toys to a local rescue in honor of your own pup. It’s a meaningful tradition to start each year.

Thanksgiving is sweeter when shared with the ones we love — especially the furry ones who give us unconditional love all year long. Whether it’s an extra treat, a cozy nap spot, or a gratitude-filled family moment, celebrating with your dog makes the holiday even more special.
