You didnât plan on becoming this person⌠it just happened. One day you were a normal human, and the next youâre rearranging your schedule around walk times and talking to your dog like they fully understand English. If any of the signs below feel a little too familiar, congratulationsâyouâre officially a dog person now!
Your Phone Is Basically a Dog Photo Album
You meant to show one picture, but now youâre 10 pics deep explaining your dogâs expressions, nicknames, and backstory. Your camera roll? 90% dog, 10% screenshots youâll never delete.
You Talk to Your Dog Like a Roommate
Full conversations. Commentary during walks. Pep talks before you leave the house. You explain where youâre going, when youâll be back, and why they canât come. And yesâyou expect them to understand.
Your Dog Has More Nicknames Than You Do
Their actual name is rarely used. Instead, itâs Bubba, Nugget, Bean, Sir Floofs-a-Lot, or something so unhinged youâd never say it in public. Somehow, they respond to all of them.
You Instinctively Scan Places for Dog-Friendliness
Patios, parks, sidewalks, storesâyouâre always clocking if dogs are welcome. Bonus points if thereâs a water bowl out front or a âdogs welcomeâ sign in the window.
Walks Are No Longer About Distance
Youâve accepted that walks are for sniffing, not speed. You stand patiently while your dog investigates the same blade of grass for what feels like five minutes, because you know itâs important dog business.
Your Dogâs Routine Runs Your Life
Meal times. Walk times. Nap times. Everything revolves around your dogâs scheduleâand honestly, youâre okay with it.
You Celebrate the Small Wins
A good recall? Huge. A calm greeting? Incredible. A no-pull walk? Basically a miracle. Youâre proud of progress that no one else noticesâand you should be.
You Feel Guilty Leaving the House
Even for fun things. Especially for fun things. You say things like, âIâll be back soon!â and feel a tiny pang of sadness every time you close the door.
You Spend Money on Things You Once Judged
Fancy treats. Puzzle toys. Orthopedic beds. Seasonal bandanas. You used to say, âIâd never spoil my dog.â And now here you are.
You Canât Imagine Life Without Them
At the end of the day, no matter how chaotic things get, your dog makes everything better. Theyâre not just a petâtheyâre your routine, your comfort, and your favorite part of coming home.
Being a dog person means muddy paws, early mornings, and lots of furâbut it also means unconditional love, daily joy, and a best friend who thinks youâre the greatest human alive.
And honestly? Thereâs no going back.
