Pawsome Fun for your Furry Friend in August

Charleston truly embraces its dog-loving community—with August bringing outdoor splash sessions, live‑music park hangs, and open‑air vendor strolls all welcoming furry friends. Whether you're splashing in waterparks or exploring historic downtown, there's something fun lined up for every pup. Check out this month's line up for fun events to check out with your furry friend!


1. Reggae Nights Summer Concert

  • When: Saturday, August 1, 7:30pm

  • Where: James Island County Park

    Come join fun featuring traditional old-school roots reggae with a new-school attitude in a beautiful outdoor setting. Bring your chairs or blanket and leashed furry friend!


2. Dog Day Afternoon at Splash Island Waterpark – Mt. Pleasant (Aug 9)

  • When: Saturday, August 9

  • Where: Splash Island Waterpark at Palmetto Islands County Park

    Two refreshing doggie swim sessions (10 AM–12 PM or 1 PM–3 PM) open exclusively for pups! Humans are free; dogs pay $15 in advance or $20 at the gate. Regular park admission ($2 per person) included 

    Note: Dogs must be at least 6 months old and vaccinated (rabies, distemper, parvo, bordetella). Female dogs in season and puppies under 6 months are not permitted 


3. 2nd Sunday on King Street

  • When: Sunday, August 10

  • Where: King Street, Downtown Charleston

    A blocked-off section of King Street turns into a pedestrian plaza where leashed dogs are welcome to stroll alongside open shops, food vendors, and artists 


4. Dog Day Afternoon at Splash Zone Waterpark – James Island (Aug 16)

  • When: Saturday, August 16

  • Where: Splash Zone Waterpark at James Island County Park

    Two refreshing doggie swim sessions (10 AM–12 PM or 1 PM–3 PM) open exclusively for pups! Humans are free; dogs pay $15 in advance or $20 at the gate. Regular park admission ($2 per person) included

5. Yappy Hour at James Island County Park

  • When: Thursday, August 28, 5:30‑7:30 PM

  • Where: James Island County Park dog park area

    Featuring live music (Molly Durnin), drinks, and fun in the dog park. A perfect evening social hour for pups and owners alike.
