Summer’s here, and that means sun, surf, and wagging tails! A day at the beach can be an amazing adventure for your pup—but a little planning goes a long way. Here’s a step-by-step guide to help pull off the perfect beach day with your pup, from choosing the right spot to packing like a pro.

1. Pick the Right Beach

Before you grab the leash and hit the road, make sure your destination is truly dog-friendly.

  • Search for beaches that allow dogs (some have time or leash restrictions).

  • Look for off-leash areas if your dog has reliable recall.

  • Check if the beach offers dog amenities like rinse stations or shaded areas.

2. Pack the Beach Bag

Here’s your dog beach checklist so you don’t forget a thing:

  • Fresh water + portable bowl – Keep your dog hydrated; no saltwater sipping!

  • Dog-friendly sunscreen – Especially for short-haired or pink-nosed pups

  • Towels – One for drying, one for lounging

  • Shade – Umbrella or pop-up tent to prevent overheating

  • Leash + harness – Even off-leash dogs should have gear nearby

  • Dog life vest – For added water safety, especially in waves

  • Floating toys – Fetch-friendly and easy to spot in water

  • Poop bags – Always clean up after your beach bum

  • Treats/snacks – Because every good pup deserves a snack break

  • First aid basics – Wipes, paw balm, or antiseptic for minor scrapes

3. Keep It Safe & Fun

Beach days should be fun—but also safe! Keep these in mind:

  • Monitor your dog for overheating - panting, drooling, or lethargy are warning signs

  • Avoid hot sand - test with your hand or walk closer to the waterline

  • Don’t let them drink saltwater - bring plenty of clean water instead

  • Watch the waves - even strong swimmers can get knocked over

  • Check for hazards - broken shells, sharp rocks, or jellyfish can ruin the day

4. Rinse & Recover

  • Rinse your dog off with clean water to remove salt and sand.

  • Dry them thoroughly, especially between paws and ears.

  • Brush out sand or tangles once you’re home.

  • Let them nap—a tired dog is a happy dog after a beach day!

5. Snap a Pic & Soak It In

Don’t forget to capture the memories! A sandy nose, wet fur, and a big doggy grin are what summer’s all about.

Now you’re ready for the ultimate beach adventure with your pup. So pack the bag and get ready for a day full of salty kisses and sandy paws. 🐾🌊
